Alder is proud to have been awarded the contract to deliver key flood resilience infrastructure for Lismore City Council, supporting the region’s ongoing recovery and long‑term preparedness.
Modernising Critical Flood Infrastructure
The existing Magellan Street pump station currently relies on a manual, tractor‑driven system that requires operators to be present on site during heavy rainfall. The upgrade will significantly improve safety and responsiveness through the installation of:
- Two new submersible electric pumps with a combined capacity of 1,000 litres per second, compared to the existing 600 litres per second
- A larger pump well to improve water management
- Electrical infrastructure raised above the 2022 flood height level
- Remote monitoring and control, enabled by Lismore’s fibre‑optic network connecting pump stations across the city
Once complete, both the Magellan Street and Snow Street facilities will be operable remotely, allowing Council teams to monitor and control pump operation safely and efficiently during future flood events.
Part of a Broader Flood Resilience Program
The commencement of works at Magellan Street and Snow Street forms part of Lismore City Council’s wider flood resilience program, which includes recently completed works at other locations across the city. Alder’s involvement marks the next phase in strengthening flood infrastructure capability for the community.
Dean Cheffers, CEO – Construction, highlighted the importance of investing in modern systems that improve safety and reliability:
“Replacing ageing infrastructure with modern, automated systems is a critical step in improving responsiveness during future flood events. Alder is proud to be working alongside Lismore City Council to deliver infrastructure that supports the community when it matters most.”
Collaboration to Support Community Resilience
These projects are funded by the Australian Government through the Northern Rivers Recovery and Resilience Program, administered by the NSW Reconstruction Authority, and reflect a strong partnership between government, council and industry.
As works progress, the project will draw on Alder’s technical expertise and collaborative approach to deliver infrastructure that contributes to safer outcomes and long‑term resilience for Lismore.
