Fire hydrant system upgrades were implemented at Teven‑Tintenbar and Wollongbar Public Schools to enhance safety and ensure compliance with operational requirements across both campuses.
Project value has been adjusted to reflect approximate current-day value as at 2025, based upon industry recognised construction indexation published by Rawlinson.
Delivered the design and construction of upgraded fire hydrant systems, enhancing fire protection infrastructure while maintaining day-to-day school operations.
Working closely with the client, Alder redesigned the pump and tank slab locations to achieve a more practical and beneficial outcome for both school sites.
Construction sequencing was carefully planned and adjusted in consultation with school stakeholders, resulting to minimised disruption and allowed normal school activities to continue throughout the works.
Alder proposed an alternative under-boring methodology using HDPE pipe in place of the specified Blue Brute pipework. This solution significantly reduced excavation requirements and minimised disturbance to school grounds.
Through active management of AIPC reporting, the project exceeded targets for new entrant, apprentice and training hours while also increasing Indigenous workforce participation.
The works were completed despite multiple periods of higher-than-average rainfall. Careful planning and site management enabled construction activities to continue while responding to changing weather conditions.
Fire hydrant system upgrades were implemented at Teven‑Tintenbar and Wollongbar Public Schools to enhance safety and ensure compliance with operational requirements across both campuses.
Construction works involved new concrete slabs, isolation of existing services and installation of new in‑ground fire service infrastructure. Key elements comprised construction of slabs to support tanks and equipment, installation of two 72,000L water tanks, a new fire booster pump house, and associated electrical works including power supply, lighting and system connections. Additional works included excavation to natural grade, painting of hydrant assemblies and installation of compliant signage.
Delivered within live school environments, the project required planning and sequencing to maintain day‑to‑day operations and minimise disruption. Alder worked collaboratively with stakeholders to optimise the location of key infrastructure, implement alternative construction methods to reduce ground disturbance, and manage challenging site conditions, including periods of heavy rainfall, while maintaining programme and safety outcomes.
