The Suites Bridge intersection upgrade improved connectivity and traffic flow in Broadbeach, introducing a new free‑flowing left‑hand exit from Darling Avenue to the Gold Coast Highway within a busy, high‑profile urban precinct.
Project value has been adjusted to reflect approximate current-day value as at 2025, based upon industry recognised construction indexation published by Rawlinson.
Expanded a critical transport infrastructure to improve traffic flow and enhance pedestrian accessibility.
The project included partial demolition of the existing bridge, relocation of fibre optic services and construction of a widened bridge section. In-situ and precast concrete techniques were used to increase capacity and improve traffic flow onto the Gold Coast Highway.
The widened bridge was carefully designed and constructed to align with the existing curved geometry and turning lanes which ensured a smooth transition between old and new structures while maintaining traffic functionality.
Piled foundations were installed to depths of up to 14 metres below cut-off level. Temporary steel liners were utilised to manage wet and submerged ground conditions throughout the construction process.
All works were planned and approved in close coordination with the adjacent Gold Coast Light Rail network. This approach ensured construction activities could proceed safely while maintaining ongoing rail operations.
Temporary traffic arrangements and pedestrian diversions were implemented to manage significant vehicle and pedestrian volumes near The Star Casino and surrounding developments. DDA-compliant pathways maintained safe public access throughout the works.
Working adjacent to canal waterways and public parklands required stringent environmental controls. Dewatering, spoil management and site-specific environmental measures were implemented to minimise impacts on the surrounding area.
The Suites Bridge intersection upgrade improved connectivity and traffic flow in Broadbeach, introducing a new free‑flowing left‑hand exit from Darling Avenue to the Gold Coast Highway within a busy, high‑profile urban precinct.
The scope included design investigations and construction of major bridge and road infrastructure, incorporating piled foundations, pile caps and support columns, along with installation of a new bridge deck and widening of the existing structure. Works involved partial demolition of the existing bridge, integration with its curved geometry, and construction using both in‑situ and precast concrete. Additional elements comprised retaining walls, suspended slabs, road pavements, traffic barriers, GRC barriers, and upgrades to traffic signals, signage and line marking, as well as relocation of lighting and essential services.
Delivered adjacent to the Gold Coast Light Rail network, canal waterways and a high‑traffic entertainment precinct, the project required detailed staging, pedestrian diversions and stringent environmental controls. Alder coordinated closely with stakeholders to manage access, maintain safety and support uninterrupted operations, implementing dewatering, spoil management and traffic controls to ensure the works were delivered efficiently within a complex and constrained environment.
