The project delivered a wider, safer crossing while preserving the historic character of the original bridge.

Works included upgrading wrought iron girders, cross beams, and cast iron columns, installing new precast concrete headstocks, and constructing a modern deck with stainless steel barriers, lighting, and utility services. Environmental protection was a priority throughout, given the sensitive marine setting. To overcome access challenges, Alder engineered a custom hydraulic scissor lift mounted on a floating barge—an innovative solution that enabled the placement of precast deck units near the creek’s centre.

This award-winning project enhanced pedestrian and cycle connectivity, retained local heritage, and improved safety for the community, blending history with modern functionality.
