The works delivered a major facilities upgrade at Sandgate District State High School, centred on a purpose‑built performing arts centre supported by broader campus infrastructure improvements. The project was designed to provide modern specialist spaces while enhancing overall campus function and outdoor amenity.
Project value has been adjusted to reflect approximate current-day value as at 2025, based upon industry recognised construction indexation published by Rawlinson.
Completed across four separable portions, the project combined new construction, demolition and sporting infrastructure upgrades while maintaining school operations.
Demolition of existing and construction of new 2-storey Performing Arts Centre with performance stage, retractable seating, dance and art studios, drama, music and multimedia classrooms, staff room, kitchen, amenities and backstage storage rooms.
Car park extension and associated civil works, delivering 19 additional parking spaces for staff and visitors.
Blocks X, L and H were demolished, including the removal of asbestos-containing materials.
Existing courts were demolished and relocated as part of the works, with three new multi-purpose sports courts constructed to support school and community use.
The project encountered latent site conditions during delivery. Alder incorporated the additional scope into the programme while maintaining the original contract completion date.
Temporary measures were implemented to provide power supply to the new building while Energex works were yet to commence.
Strict WHS controls were implemented for asbestos removal and demolition activities, which were undertaken during school holiday periods to mitigate risks within the live school environment.
Alder achieved its training and new entrant targets, engaging 22 apprentices throughout the project. Work experience was also provided to a Year 12 student participating in the Building Blocks program who was interested in pursuing a career in carpentry.
