Expanded Robina Hospital’s Emergency Department with a new 20-treatment Ambulatory Care Zone while maintaining operations in a live 24/7 healthcare environment.
The project was restructured into a staged construction program to address significant latent conditions while still achieving completion within the original contract duration.
Construction was undertaken around the clock within a fully operational hospital environment, requiring coordinated shift management and rapid issue resolution to keep works progressing.
Works were delivered simultaneously across three separate areas, supported by detailed planning and close coordination with hospital stakeholders to minimise impacts on services.
The project included the relocation of hospital administration and the existing transfer unit, with refurbishment works providing a like-for-like replacement transit unit and new administration workspace.
Redesigned the outpatient reception layout to improve wheelchair accessibility, incorporating a new reception desk, full-height glazed wall and timber panelling to align with the existing environment.
Completed gas service reticulation works to support the operational requirements of the new Transfer Unit and ensure continuity of hospital services.
Alder delivered the expansion of Robina Hospital’s Emergency Department, creating new ambulatory care and minor illness treatment areas to increase capacity and improve patient flow.
The project created a new ambulatory care zone and minor illness and injuries area, supported by the relocation of existing hospital administration and the transfer unit. Works included refurbishment of front‑of‑house spaces to accommodate a new transit unit, construction of updated workspaces, redesign of reception areas to improve accessibility, and upgrades to essential services infrastructure including medical gas reticulation.
Completed within a 24/7 operational hospital, the project required staged delivery, concurrent works across multiple zones and an accelerated programme to maintain continuity of care. Alder coordinated closely with hospital stakeholders to manage access, minimise disruption and respond to latent conditions, ensuring essential services remained fully operational while delivering a modern, functional healthcare environment.
