Demolition

Demolition of existing concrete footpath and vehicle barrier.

Pedestrian Footpath

The northern pedestrian footpath was extended, requiring the fabrication and installation of new structural elements.

Complex Retrofitting

New substructure elements were retrofitted to the existing bridge, requiring close collaboration with the client and lead designers due to the age of the structure.

Safety Infrastructure

Installation of a new VGAN vehicle barrier and stainless steel handrail system.

LED Lighting

Design and installation of new programmable LED lighting system.

Protective Coatings

Existing structural steel elements were sandblasted and treated with protective coatings.

Concrete Repairs

Crack repairs, concrete patching works and replacement of expansion joints were completed to key bridge elements.

Finishing Works

A concrete fairing coat was applied as part of the bridge remediation program.

Traffic Management

Temporary traffic controls were implemented to divert pedestrians and vehicles while minimising disruption during peak periods.

Extending the service life of a critical bridge asset, Alder delivered comprehensive remediation and upgrade works to improve structural integrity and user safety. The project involved complex retrofitting of new elements into the existing structure, requiring close collaboration with designers and careful planning to address the challenges associated with aging infrastructure.

Works included concrete repairs to abutments, headstocks and piers, replacement of expansion joints and vehicle barriers, and widening of the northern pedestrian footpath. A bespoke cantilever scaffold system was designed and installed to enable safe access beneath the bridge, supporting the delivery of repairs, protective coatings and installation of new structural and safety elements.

The upgrade also incorporated new handrails, programmable LED lighting, and traffic management measures to minimise disruption during construction. All works were undertaken while maintaining pedestrian and vehicle access, demonstrating Alder’s capability to deliver complex civil remediation projects within constrained and operational environments.
