To improve safety and connectivity for the local community, Alder replaced the ageing single-lane bridge on Purga School Road in Ipswich with a new two-lane reinforced concrete structure. Delivered for Ipswich City Council, the project involved demolition of the existing timber bridge and construction of a modern crossing over Purga Creek, designed in accordance with TMR and Austroads standards.
Project value has been adjusted to reflect approximate current-day value as at 2025, based upon industry recognised construction indexation published by Rawlinson.

A temporary bridge was established to maintain connectivity for residents while the existing bridge was demolished and the new structure was constructed.
Unexpected dense high-strength rock required changes to the piling design. Alder worked with the geotechnical team to develop solutions based on actual site conditions.
Located within a high-value ecological area, the project required stringent environmental management. Water quality monitoring, fauna protection measures, erosion controls and drainage management were implemented before, during and after bridge installation, with no impact to the surrounding environment.
Strict traffic and pedestrian management was implemented to ensure the safety of locals and the delivery team throughout the project duration.
Bridge construction beneath high-voltage powerlines and adjacent telecommunications infrastructure required rigorous safety controls and carefully coordinated shutdown windows to minimise disruption to network services and Energex assets.

Delivered under live traffic conditions, the works required planning to maintain access for residents and emergency services. Alder installed a temporary access bridge to ensure continuity, while also managing traffic control, service protection, clearing and earthworks, stormwater culverts, piling and upgraded road approaches. The project also included reconstruction of local driveways, helping minimise disruption while supporting daily access needs.
Working within a sensitive rural environment, the team responded to complex site conditions, including unexpected high-strength rock that required design refinements during piling works. Strict environmental controls and monitoring were implemented to protect surrounding ecology, alongside detailed safety management for works beneath high-voltage powerlines. Through proactive coordination and strong stakeholder communication, Alder delivered a safer, more resilient bridge that will serve the community for years to come.
