The Dreamworld King Claw project delivered a major new attraction within one of Australia’s busiest theme parks, introducing a high‑capacity Intamin Gyro Swing to replace the existing ride.
Project value has been adjusted to reflect approximate current-day value as at 2025, based upon industry recognised construction indexation published by Rawlinson.
Delivered a major new attraction within an operating theme park environment, coordinating complex ride infrastructure, extensive public realm works and stakeholder interfaces while maintaining guest safety and minimising disruption to park operations.
The King Claw delivers a world-class guest experience, reaching speeds up to 98km/h, maximum swing height of approximately 42 metres, structure height of 27 metres, and seating capacity of 40 riders.
Specialised foundations were constructed to support the ride structure, including the installation of 16 piles across four pile caps.
Construction activities were carefully planned around restricted operating hours, allowing works to progress safely while maintaining uninterrupted guest experiences and minimising impacts on park operations.
The project included the installation of 21m² of PVC membrane shade sails, 600m² of concrete pathways, ramps and suspended slabs, 800m² of coloured exposed aggregate pathways, 340m² of stencilcrete surfacing, and 70m² of softfall surfacing to create a safe and engaging visitor experience.
Worked in close collaboration with client-selected subcontractors to achieve seamless integration and maintain strict alignment with project objectives.
Additional scope, including remediation of the Ocean Parade pathway network, was successfully incorporated during construction. Comprehensive safety controls, daily risk assessments and controlled access zones ensured the safety of workers and guests throughout project delivery.
The Dreamworld King Claw project delivered a major new attraction within one of Australia’s busiest theme parks, introducing a high‑capacity Intamin Gyro Swing to replace the existing ride. Working within a live, high‑traffic environment, Alder managed site preparation, piling, foundations and structural works to support the new ride platform, while maintaining strict safety and operational controls throughout delivery.
The scope extended beyond core structural works to include the construction of themed queuing areas and integration of electrical, hydraulic, audio‑visual and security systems. Entry and exit ramps, fencing and extensive hardscaping were completed to align with the surrounding park environment, ensuring a cohesive and seamless visitor experience.
Delivery required close coordination with client‑nominated contractors and flexible programming to accommodate restricted operating hours and ongoing park activities. Alder implemented stringent safety measures, including controlled access zones and daily risk reviews, while adapting construction sequencing to mitigate disruption. Additional pathway remediation works were also incorporated, demonstrating the team’s ability to manage evolving scope while maintaining programme and quality outcomes.
