Asbestos was identified during site works and safely removed through careful planning and revised programming. Removal activities were undertaken after hours and during school holidays.
Successfully managed numerous previously unidentified services were encountered throughout the site due to its location at the front of the school and amongst existing buildings.
Lifting constraints were encountered due to surrounding buildings, requiring adherence to strict Department of Education lifting requirements.
Training and apprentice targets were achieved two months ahead of Practical Completion.
Students participated in site tours through Alder's Building Blocks Program, with a Year 11 student later completing work experience on site after developing an interest in an apprenticeship.
Alder delivered a new tuckshop and student engagement centre at Cleveland District State High School, enhancing student support facilities and day‑to‑day campus functionality within a compact, high‑traffic area.
The project involved the complete design and construction of a single‑storey facility comprising offices, a conference room, student kitchenette, first aid room and compliant amenities. Additional works included a covered outdoor link between buildings, new walkway connections, upgraded footpaths, and demolition and reconfiguration of the existing carpark, providing improved accessibility and circulation across the site.
Delivered within a tight footprint at the front of the school, the project required detailed coordination, strict traffic and pedestrian management, and careful sequencing to maintain a safe environment and minimise disruption to school operations. Challenges including asbestos removal, unknown services and lifting constraints were successfully managed through proactive planning and staging, with works programmed around school holidays and after‑hours periods to ensure continuity of teaching and learning activities.
