Alder is proud to have delivered the new $25 million headquarters for Rous County Council in Ballina, a major regional infrastructure project consolidating the organisation’s operations from across the Northern Rivers into a single state-of-the-art site.
Located at Gallans Road, the project transformed the former Thursday Plantation site into a contemporary office and operations centre capable of supporting more than 100 staff.
Engaged to complete the design and construction of the facility, Alder delivered extensive upgrades and refurbishment works across the site, alongside new warehouse, civil, landscaping, and supporting infrastructure works.
The project included the conversion of the existing visitor centre and café into contemporary council chambers and multipurpose public facilities designed for broader community use. Existing buildings across the site were also upgraded and reconfigured to accommodate administration offices, operational facilities, meeting spaces, and supporting amenities.
Additional works included the construction of a new warehouse facility with integrated carwash bay, facade upgrades, heavy vehicle hardstand areas, roadworks, carparking, landscaping, and extensive civil and services infrastructure upgrades to support the site’s increased operational capacity.
Throughout construction, temporary facilities were maintained onsite to allow existing staff and operations to continue functioning with minimal disruption.
The redevelopment was carefully designed to optimise the existing site conditions while preserving the surrounding ecology, with demolition works achieving approximately 95 per cent material recycling.
Designed to improve collaboration, operational efficiency, and long-term sustainability, the completed headquarters now provides Rous County Council with a centralised and future-focused operational base while also delivering an important civic and community asset for the Ballina region.
For Alder, the project reflects the strength of its Northern NSW presence, with local teams continuing to deliver diverse civic and infrastructure projects across the Byron, Tweed, Ballina and Lismore regions.
