The project delivered a wider, safer crossing while preserving the historic character of the original bridge.
Project value has been adjusted to reflect approximate current-day value as at 2025, based upon industry recognised construction indexation published by Rawlinson.
The completed bridge refurbishment has peserved a value heritage asset while improving pedestrian and cycle connectivity and enhancing community safety.
Existing bridge substructure elements, including wrought iron girders, cross beams and cast iron columns, were upgraded and refurbished as part of the conservation works.
New bridge substructure components were installed, including precast concrete headstocks to support the renewed structure.
The project delivered a new precast concrete deck, stainless steel barriers, connecting pathways, lighting and utility services to improve accessibility and functionality.
Construction activities were carefully managed due to the bridge's close proximity to the sensitive marine environment of Currumbin Creek.
The project delivered a wider, safer crossing while preserving the historic character of the original bridge.
Works included upgrading wrought iron girders, cross beams, and cast iron columns, installing new precast concrete headstocks, and constructing a modern deck with stainless steel barriers, lighting, and utility services. Environmental protection was a priority throughout, given the sensitive marine setting. To overcome access challenges, Alder engineered a custom hydraulic scissor lift mounted on a floating barge—an innovative solution that enabled the placement of precast deck units near the creek’s centre.
This award-winning project enhanced pedestrian and cycle connectivity, retained local heritage, and improved safety for the community, blending history with modern functionality.
